In The Shadow Of Her Hat
I wandered as a lonely soul, drawn to the shadow of her hat,
Security being necessary for
The independence of a cat
In the shadow of her hat I reach out for the hot, white sun,
Only to blindly seek the shelter
Of darkest shadow once again.
From the shadow of her hat I spread my toes toward the sun,
Casting shadows of my own
On smaller things that start to run.
Running ever from the shadows into sun too hot to bear,
Independence hardest won
Is easiest lost to those who dare.
Creeping ever back for shelter, torn by thoughts too strange to pen,
To gain one is to lose the other
To darkest shadow once again!
